Born and raised on Long Island, Dawn earned a B.A. in Chemistry with NYS certification to teach Chemistry, Biology and General Science from Stony Brook University.  Immediately after graduation, she began teaching Middle School Science in the Three Village School District, also located in Stony Brook, NY.  Early in her teaching career she earned a Master’s Degree in Liberal Studies from SBU.  Since then, she has continued teaching in the middle school setting while also writing and instructing several graduate level courses for in-service educators.  In 2014, she was named a New York State Master Teacher which has allowed her the opportunity to work alongside some of the best educators in the state while trying to encourage and support those new to the field.  Her passion for education has led her back to Stony Brook University, where she is currently working on a Ph.D. in Science Education.  She hopes through both her research and leadership roles to have the opportunity to impact New York State’s students, teachers and educational policy.  Outside of school and work, she spends her free time with her wonderful and supportive husband, daughter and three furry babies.
